1. Don’t be late
Never be late for a date. It will give the wrong impression and people don’t like waiting. You will risk your date leaving before you arrive.
2. Don’t pretend…
Don’t pretend to be someone you aren’t. Being dishonest with someone when you first meet them will only lead to you being found out later down the line, possibly ruining what could have been a great relationship.
3. Easy does it…
Don’t give the impression that you are desperate. If you call your date constantly you will come across as being desperate which will put them off. Calling once a day maximum is sufficient.
4. Safety first…
Don’t overlook personal safety. Remember the basics; have a mobile phone with you, tell friends where you are going and who with, meet in a public place. Please see our meeting in person article for more safety advice.
5. Personal details are personal…
Don’t give out personal details on a first date. Wait until you are certain that there are future possibilities between you before giving out your home phone number and address. If you plan a future date, the arrangements can be made at the end of the first date, instead of giving out your personal details.
6. Don’t get drunk…
Never get drunk on a date or be rude. It is not acceptable behaviour and will put your date off for sure and they will lose any respect they had for you. Manners and courtesy are everything and will help lead to a successful date.
7. Hold back a bit…
Don’t give away too much information about yourself at the beginning. Keep some facts about you back to tell them at a future time. People love the mystery of finding things out about a person, so don’t spoil the fun by blurting out your life history all in one go.
8. No sex, please…
Don’t have sex on a first date. It will give off the wrong impression about you. It could possibly ruin the start of a great relationship. Having sex on a first date is not the way to find romance.
9. Remember your on a date…
Don’t flirt with or eye up other people while on a date. It is disrespectful to your date and could make them feel insignificant. Concentrate solely on your date.
10. Married? No thanks…
Never knowingly date a married person. It will only lead to unhappiness and deception. There will be more than just you and the married person who will be affected; you will also be affecting the married person’s partner plus their family.
